And I shall be adding to this list whenever there is something that needs to be added.
THINGS THAT ARE BACKWARDS:
- The side of the road that you drive on.
- The side of the car that you sit on.
- The side of the steering wheel the flicker [blinker, indicator etc] is on.
- The Light Switches!
Apparently the way the water in the toilet turns. Disproved by my brother :P
- The taps. [Like you turn it the other way to turn the water on... which can get confusing, like when you want to turn the water off quickly, and you turn it so it gets even stronger!!]
WORDS THAT US AUSSIES DON'T USE SO MUCH:
- Neat [as in 'cool']
- Dinner [never tea]
- Candy
- What we call chips - they call fries. So if I go to Maccas, if I ask for chips, they'll give me a bag of crispy chips... not the hot chips [fries].
- Same with combo and meal.
- They don't [for cars] have Gas, and call Petrol 'Gas'.
To be continued....
It sure is a backwards country!
ReplyDeleteThe toilet thing isn't true though. The law that makes things spin different ways in different hemispheres only really works on large scale meteorological events, not on tiny bodies of water. (Coriolis effect)
Oh, and what side are light switches supposed to be on in Australia?
More up and down rather then sides.
ReplyDeleteSo over here when you flick it up, it turns on, in Aus when you flick it up, it turns it off.
Some of the loos over there are scary anyway, whether they spin one way or another! They fill right up before flushing and make you wonder if they'll stop before they overflow. Takes some getting used to, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there are the ones that just overflow. It's about 50/50, watch out. If you think it will, just plug the hole with your hands, it's easy.
ReplyDeleteEasily, the publish is really the greatest on this laudable topic. I concur with your conclusions and will thirstily look forward to your future updates. Saying thanks will not just be sufficient, for the fantastic lucidity in your writing.
